Stone Stairs & Steps in Toronto
A stone staircase gets walked on every day, so fit and layout matter as much as the material. We fabricate and install stone treads, risers, newel posts and full staircases — send us your stair dimensions and we’ll explain what’s realistic.

Stone Stairs & Steps, Done Right
A stone staircase is one of the least forgiving installs there is. Every tread has to be the same height and depth as the one next to it, the nosing has to be consistent from step to step, and the stone has to be finished so it isn’t slippery once it’s in daily use — get any of that wrong and it shows immediately, because people walk on it every day.
We fabricate and install stone treads, risers, newel posts, balustrade details and full staircases in marble, granite and other natural stone, across Toronto and the GTA. Measurement matters more here than on almost any other part of a project — a stair that’s slightly out of level or has an inconsistent rise is something people notice with their feet, not just their eyes. We bring the same fabrication and installation discipline we use on countertops and fireplaces to stairs.
If you’re restoring existing stone stairs rather than building new ones, see our stone restoration page — worn treads can often be honed and refinished instead of replaced.
Why Stair Fabrication Is Different
- ✓Every tread has to match the next — no room for drift
- ✓Finish has to balance looks with slip resistance
- ✓Real fabrication background, not just tile-and-stair installers
- ✓WSIB compliant and insured
Stair Components We Fabricate
The individual pieces that make up a stone staircase, and what we handle on each.
The horizontal step surface and the vertical face beneath it, cut and finished to match across the full run of stairs.
Carved or turned stone newel posts and balustrade details, fabricated to match the rest of the staircase.
Curved staircases and landings need careful templating — every piece is cut to fit the actual curve, not a standard size.
Stone Stair Work
These photos show real stone staircase and stair-detail fabrication from our project archive — general craftsmanship, not a specific current GTA installation.

Our Stone Stair Process
The same general process whether it’s a straight run, a curved staircase, or a single set of entry steps.
Measure & Template
We measure the full run — rise, run, and any curve — and template exact dimensions before fabrication.
Select the Stone
You choose the material and finish; we’ll flag anything that won’t hold up well underfoot.
Fabricate the Treads
Every tread and riser is cut and finished to match, so the run reads as one consistent staircase.
Install & Finish
Treads are set, sealed if appropriate, and checked for level and consistent rise before we call it done.
Insured, Trained & Compliant
The same credentials on every Uni-Stone project. Our mobile team serves Toronto, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and the entire GTA.
